Mechanical Genius revealed!

I am so excited to finally get to share this! It has been a long time coming and now that it is here, I am just thrilled! I have a now 12 year old son. He likes to sew and I love to sew for him but the older he gets, the harder it is to find age apropriate prints that he likes and is excited about. I started thinking about the things he likes and the things we like to do together. Then I sat down with him and he sketched me some robots and we talked about colors and then I went to work.

This collection is all inspired by him. He has been on a Robotics team for a couple of years that I helped out with. He loves math and science so I included a stripe based on Fibonacci's number. We spend a good amount of time (a very good amount of time!) playing with legos around here so I did a print inspired by those. When it was all designed I asked him what it should be called and he suggested Mechanical Genius so that is how the name came about.

I consulted with him along the way and I think this is a great group of prints that will work well for lots of boys- toddlers, older boys and even Dads. I can't wait to make him a pair of pajamas out of the Fibonacci stripe and a fussy cut robot patch pocket.

I am designing a quilt pattern for these as well. My husband will likely get a laptop bag lined in the blue circuit boards. He works in tech- maybe I should make him a collared shirt out of that print too!

Working with Timeless Treasures has been a dream and they did such a great job with these. The colors are so beautiful and they got all the tiny details I wanted.

I love that group above. Can't wait to fussy cut those robots!

Thanks for scrolling all the way down! I hope you love this collection as much as I do. There will be samples of this in the booth at Market this fall and the collection should be in stores by early 2012 though some stores may have it in December. As soon as I know where you can find it I will put a list up on the side bar. The people at Timeless Treasures will have a good idea who will have this in December by early December so feel free to contact them if you have a boy on your holiday list who needs a quilt made out of this.

Great collection! There's definitely a hole in the market for these sorts of prints. Of course, I would actually love to see something like this in more girly colors - someday, the fabric companies will figure out not all girls like flowers and dolls, and would prefer something more geeky. ;)

Fantastic job, Mo! And as a mother of a little boy, thank you so much for creating a line that works for them. And how cool is it that you and your son collaborated on the project?!

My mum spent lots of time looking for robots dor quilt for my 5yo boy earlier this year and she will be disappointed she has just finished it now as it would have complemented the colours perfectly. Congrats on a great collaboration what a great design team you made.

So fun! I love the color ways that you went with. ESP. The "golden" yellow and oranges. Excellent job. Way to fill a need in the marketplace.
