My daughter has already been using this bag and it is working just as I hoped it would. She usually misplaces her tally sheet by the first week of summer reading and it is in the pocket of her bag still! She has also been keeping the receipts she gets that list all the books she has checked out all folded up in her library card pocket with her card so that is helpful too. Let me know if you make one, I would love to see it!

I loved your library bag! The tutorial was awesome! I now know how to do French seams.
Thanks for posting this tutorial! I left a comment on sewmamasew, but will also leave one here. Your directions are fabulous--very clear and detailed. I made the bag last night for my daughter (who is into skulls at the moment, so I used a different applique). It looks great, although I wouldn't recommend heavy duck canvas (way too thick and difficult to sew) or flannel (which I used for the lining--way too stretchy for my taste for this project). It's the perfect size for a folder, some books, and a snack. Thanks again!
Can't wait to try this out, just cut out my pattern and I'm going to have a go tomorrow evening when the babies are in bed.
Never done french seams so fingers crossed I get it right.
Will send you a picture when I've made it.
Well, it's finished and it's ok.
I thought I'd be clever and line it at the same time, big mistake, the seams are huge!
Next time, make the lining and the bag, then add them together!!!
Lesson learnt!
So, maybe won't be giving this one as a Christmas present. (An excuse to make another one!)
How do I sent you my pictures for your thoughts????
