Rain Bonnet anyone?

I love these little rain bonnets. My Grandma used to have these. I don't know if she got them at the bank or somewhere as some type of giveaway or if she bought them but she always had them. She would take the bonnet out of the little container and carfully tie it on to protect her "set". Does anyone know where these little things originated? I bought the whole lot (18!) of them at an estate sale recently. So nostalgic I just had to have them!
Here is my scarf, all done and getting lots of use. I will have to find the label for the yarn because it is soft and so altogether yummy. I did it on 13's in mistake rib pattern and eveytime someone feels it, they ooh and ahh the yarn is so good. I had a gift certificate so I splurged on it. I am such a scarf girl. Of course today the sun is shining and warm and GLORIOUS. I so needed a day like today. We had another day like this last week where it hit sixty and it was a priceless gift for a girl who is not so enamored of winter and all it's dreary soggy spoils. Plus a day like this gets me thinking about garage/estate season which is right around the corner! And summer dips and baseball games and gardens and... is anyone else ready for spring?

What cute little rain bonnet packaging. I don't recall ever seeing them before. Such a pretty scarf. I don't knit...I just admire the work of others.

Love the rain bonnets. My grandmother used to wear them all the time. My favorite rain bonnet story is when my son was about 3 and we were having a family birthday party. I had to go out to pick up pizza and it was pouring! My grandmother told me to borrow her bonnet. I returned to the party carrying the pizza boxes with the clear rain bonnet on my head. Evidently my son thought it was the FUNNIEST THING he had ever seen. He was doing these deep belly laughs and I thought he would wet his pants. I am always reminded of my grandmother when I see one of these gems.

Oh my goodness, I used to have one of those. I've been thinking alot about many of the simple things I had in childhood that I just haven't seen around anymore.

I used to use mine and carry it in my purse, as a young lady should always be prepared.

What a score! I hope that someone out there puts these darling things on the market again. An older friend gave these to my sisters and I and we put them to good use. So much so that, alas, we don't have them any longer.

Your scarf is beautiful, it's given me an idea who wants me to knit a chunky scarf for him.

I sure do remember those funny little rain hats, they came right around the time with the folding cups, I mean collapse cups. Do you remember those?
I came over here from Laurie's Blog. She is a riot!
